Practice Righteousness

September 24, 2016

Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as Jesus is righteous.  Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:7-8

So if the children of the devil please their "father" by doing evil, how much more should the children of God please their Father by doing good?  Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and we're on His side, right?  We KNOW that we cannot earn or deserve that great gift we have been given of eternal life and adoption as God's sons.  Shouldn't we be so grateful for what we've received that we would do ANYTHING to please God?  The passage above continues on below:

No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for His seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.  1 John 3:9-10

Yikes?!  Did I read that right?  If I deliberately and regularly *practice* the same kind of behavior as a child of the devil, who is NOT saved and therefore NOT indwelt by the Holy Spirit and NOT born of God, then that is apparently what I am?  This is something to really seriously consider and get right now while there is still time to change, with God's help.  He is the ONLY One who saves.
