Pay Your Vow

February 23, 2017

When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.  It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay. Ecclesiastes 5:4-5

Heavenly Father, Please bring to our remembrance any promises that we made to you that we have not been faithful to fulfill.  You are perfectly faithful forever and worthy of our undying allegiance, obedience in all things and the firstfruits of all that we have received from your great blessings upon us.  Jesus fulfilled the Feast of Firstfruits when he rose again from the dead.  We know that we ourselves are a kind of firstfruits and we marvel at it!  That you could love and care for us in the way that you do never ceases to amaze us.  Please help us to be faithful to you first and foremost in all things, always and forever.  We love you more than words can express.  In Jesus' holy, perfect, beloved name, Amen.

But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.  For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.  For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.  But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.  Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.  For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.  The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 1 Corinthians 15:20-26

And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. Romans 8:23

But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.  To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.  Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17

He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. James 1:18
