Heir of All Things
November 13, 2017Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the Heir of all things, through whom also He created the ages. Hebrews 1:1-2
Note: The Greek word usually translated "universe" or "world(s)" is really "aeons" or "ages." It is the same as the word in Heb. 11:3. Most certainly everything that has been created was through, by and for Jesus, but I prefer to keep the translation as close to possible to the original. The exact same word in question is translated as relating to time in other passages of the New Testament. http://biblehub.com/greek/aio_nas_165.htm
We certainly do keep time through certain elements of the universe (which is called cosmos in Greek). (Gen. 1:14-15) We are now in the Church age and after that will be the age of Jesus' Millennial Reign (the 7th "1,000 year day," the Sabbath Rest in the Promised Land which only Jesus can give entrance into. Heb. 4, 2Pet. 3, Psalm 90). After that, Jesus will put the last enemy, death, under His feet and hand the kingdom back to His Father. (1Cor. 15:24-28) The old heaven and earth will flee away--along with night--and God and the Lamb will be the light and the temple in the new heavens and earth. (Rev. 20:11, Rev. 22:22-25)
To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things, so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him. Ephesians 3:8-12
For us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. 1 Corinthians 8:6
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. Colossians 1:15-20
To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1:17
For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. Hebrews 2:10
