Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:1-23

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water in the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Ephesians 5:22-33

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 1 Peter 1:13-19

(Peter's letter was addressed in 1Pet. 1:1-2 to those of the "dispersion" due to persecution. However we believers are ALL "exiles" due to the fact our citizenship is in heaven and we are sojourners here on earth. Also see Eph. 2:19-22, 1Pet. 2:4-5, Heb. 3:5-6, 12-14, Phil. 3:20-21--also see the context of Phil. 3:17-19.)

These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city. Hebrews 11:13-16

(Notice the "giants of the faith" in Heb. 11 could have returned to their OLD land if they so desired, rather than walking by faith--just like we FOLLOW Jesus - Matt. 10:37-39, John 10:27, 12:25-26, 2Cor. 5:7. God didn't force them to do His will - Deut. 8:2. In a similar way, the prodigal son was not prevented from leaving or forced to return - Luke 15:11-32. He came to his senses and was warmly welcomed back. Jesus doesn't "lose" us, but neither does He violate our free will to make us stay or obey Him - John 14:24. There's a difference between being lost and running away. That's why we yield to the Holy Spirit inside of us, keeping our hearts soft and humble before God instead of rebelling against Him. Eph. 4:30, 1Thess. 5:19, Rom. 8:14, Gal. 5:18, Jam. 4:4-10, Heb. 3:12-15, 6:4-12)

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. 2 Corinthians 5:1-10 (Also see Matt. 22:11-14, Rom. 13:14, Gal. 5:24.)

Remember, Paul is writing to the CHURCH at Corinth, NOT to unbelievers. We will not be condemned to the second death - Rev. 20:14-15 - if we are IN Christ. (Rom. 8:1, John 3:18) However, we must examine ourselves to be sure that His Spirit IS in us, based on whether our "fruit" is good or bad. (2Cor. 13:5, Rom. 8:9, Gal. 5:13-25, Rom. 7:4-6, Titus 2:11-15, John 15:1-21) We can be forgiven of ALL sins we acknowledge ("confess") to Him and repent of (turn from). (1John 1:5-10) Our circumcision is of the heart, which is to be grieved by our sins. (Rom. 2:29, 2Cor. 7:9-10, Acts 2:37-38, Mark 7:6-7)

Now John wore a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan were going out to him, and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” Matthew 3:4-12 (Also see Matt. 13:36-43, 47-50, John 15:6.)

We WILL lose rewards EVEN if we truly believe and yet prefer the ways of the fallen world more than God's. (1John 2:15-17, John 14:15-26, 1Cor. 2:9, 2Tim. 2:19-26, 1Cor. 3:11-17, Luke 12:32-34, Jam. 1:12-16) That really could be considered calling God a liar (and even idolatrous, believing in a FALSE God) if we believe the world's version of Him (or that of the "wolves in sheep's clothing that we were WARNED about - Acts 20:26-35, 2Tim. 3:1-5, 4:1-5, 2Pet. 2, 2Pet. 3, Jude 1) instead of the one He provided for us in the Bible. (Rom. 1:24-32) Read it for YOURSELF instead of letting someone else tell you their version of "what it really says." This isn't a game where we can pretend to believe and to love God, thinking He won't know. As 1John 2:1-6 and 3:1-10 say, some people are just liars to even claim to know Him at all. We need to be sure not to be deceived by them or even by ourselves. (Matt. 7:13-29, Rom. 16:18-19, 6:9-10, 1Cor. 15:33-34, 1Cor. 11:3-4, Gal. 6:7-8, Eph. 5:3-21, 2Tim. 3:12-17, 1John 2:28-29)

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. 1 Peter 2:9-12 (Also see Matt. 5:16 and the preceding verses Matt. 5:13-14, for context.)

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. Colossians 3:1-11

For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. Romans 2:13-16

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:12-13

And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.” “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. Revelation 22:10-17

For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. Matthew 16:27

He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. Romans 2:6-11 (Also see Eph. 2:11-18, Rom. 11:17-25, Gal. 3:27-29.)

This is a wake-up call. (Matt. 25:1-13, 24:42-51, Luke 11:33-36, 1Thess. 5:5-11, Mark 13:32-37, Rom. 13:11-14, 1Cor. 15:33-34, 2Cor. 6:14-7:1, Rev. 3:2-6, 2:20-29, 3:15-22) Be on guard and keep watch. (Eph. 6:10-20, Matt. 26:41, Luke 12:35-48, 21:34-35, 1Cor. 6:13-14, Col. 4:2, 1Pet. 5:8-10, 2John 1:8, Rom. 12:11, Heb. 6:11-12, Gal. 6:1, 1Tim. 4:8, 16, Jam. 5:19-20) Be WISE. (Matt. 25:2, 10, 7:24-27, Luke 10:21, Rom. 16:19, 1Cor. 1:18-31, 2:6, 3:18-20, Eph. 5:15-17, Col. 4:5, 1Cor. 14:20, Heb. 5:14, Col. 1:28, Phil. 3:14-21, Jam. 3:13, 2Tim. 3:14-17, Psa. 119:105, 111:10)
